We, Thiago Espeche and Ammiel Fazzari, created Shift Shift, an artistic collective founded to change the change.

At a time when the future seems to have arrived too quickly, we created the collective to question both the promise of a technological paradise and the threat of a dystopian future.

Amid a new digital and industrial revolution, shaped by artificial intelligence, automation, hyperconnectivity, and the constant consumption of stimuli, we raise a simple but urgent question: Are we truly aware of what we are doing? Do we understand the changes we are creating?

“The world has already changed, and it continues to transform. Artificial intelligence, automation and a life increasingly mediated by algorithms are beginning to feel inevitable. Our intention is to question that sense of inevitability,” say Thiago Espeche and Ammiel Fazzari, co-founders of Shift Shift.

Through films, artworks, interventions, prototypes, and speculative fiction, we examine how society is using technology, the internet, and artificial intelligence. Rather than simply generating more dopamine, our work raises questions about comfort, privacy, replacement, delegated decision-making, human sensitivity, and the place we still want to occupy in an increasingly automated world.

We put the future to the test. Our works function as cultural experiments that bring possible futures into the present so we can observe how we react to them.

"People are losing both their sensitivity and their trust in reality. We want our works to function as a kind of defibrillator, delivering a powerful shock. That said, we cannot promise we will be able to revive the corpse," says Thiago Espeche.

Our work offers a critical, curious, and deeply human perspective on the cultural transformations already taking place, before they become invisible through familiarity.

We created Shift Shift to question this moment in human history before we become too accustomed to it. By the way, this text was not written by a robot.
